PhD position in options for increasing supply-chain transparency and coping with negative environmental and socio-economic impacts of metals consumption
The successful candidate will examine the practices and preferences of Swiss companies with respect to “cleaning” up their supply chains for gold, copper, and lithium. It will explore the potential role of increasing transparency and enhancing rules of origin and traceability in reducing the ecological and social footprint of metal supply chains. It will also analyze
- whether and how practices from the fair trade or the environmental certification area could be used for metals and mining;
- how improved CSR measures interact with initiatives of civil society stakeholders;
- the feasibility of measures that are similar to carbon or biodiversity offsets;
The PhD candidate will also study the price implications, feasibility, and acceptability of various policy instruments.
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled candidate with a social sciences background, expertise in quantitative methods, and familiarity with survey design and analysis as well as with experimental approaches.
